From a research question
to a finished manuscript
An academic research studio for literature, article drafting, measured-data analysis and collaboration across disciplines
01 / The process
From idea to submission
- 0I
Survey
Searches OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar, then writes a structured review in which every citation is a real, linked work
- II
Direct
Proposes theses or hypotheses with research questions, appropriate methods and the relevant scholarly literature
- III
Compose
Outlines and writes the complete article section by section, citing only the gathered literature
- IV
Revise
Edit through conversation, with proposed revisions you accept or decline
- 0V
Prepare
Scores journal fit, prepares anonymised packages and cover letters, and tracks the sequential submission queue
Research
From a topic to a research question
Paperatus searches OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar, with field-specific PubMed and arXiv searches and Crossref metadata, then develops a structured literature review from indexed sources
Compare proposed theses, research questions and methods, then choose the direction you want to develop — the bibliography remains available alongside the manuscript
Research sequence
- Topic
- A question, a field, or an unresolved debate
- Literature
- Indexed sources and a structured review
- Directions
- Candidate theses, questions and methods
- Manuscript
- An outline developed section by section
Research workspace
Structures, data and co-authors
Article structures
Start with an argumentative article, IMRaD research paper, theorem–proof structure or systematic review across seven field groups — save your own ordered journal-shaped structures
Measured results
Import CSV or Excel data and calculate descriptive statistics and distributions from your own observations — figures stay with the manuscript and its exports
Shared research
Invite co-authors, commenters or viewers to projects or shared workspaces, compare saved checkpoints and publish a read-only manuscript — remix its outline and sources without copying prose
Writing
Draft and review
Generate a paper from your selected research direction or upload a manuscript you already have — then refine the text through conversation and run focused reviews without changing the manuscript
Find the strongest objection
A demanding referee examines your claims, assumptions and counterarguments before a journal reviewer does
Illustrative review excerpt
The conclusion depends on an unstated premise: that responsibility requires control over every relevant cause
Revision to consider
Make the control requirement explicit, then address cases of partial agency
A full referee report is also available for a broader assessment of the manuscript
Import & export
Import and export formats
Upload Word, text-based PDF, plain text or Markdown — Paperatus preserves your prose and citation text, rather than rewriting the import
Export the manuscript with its citation text and references in the format your next step requires
One manuscript, four formats
Submission
Journal preparation
Compare journal fit and prepare a package for each destination — set manuscript and abstract limits, file format, spacing, page numbers, keywords and anonymity requirements
Choose a destination
Compare journal fit and prepare a cover letter tailored to the paper and journal
Check the requirements
Review the journal’s current instructions and confirm citation style, anonymity and package requirements
Download the package
Get the manuscript, cover letter, abstract, keywords and checklist together in one ZIP
Journal portals still require manual submission — Paperatus prepares the package and tracks the sequential queue, but does not yet complete portal forms or apply custom journal templates automatically
Connections
Bring your own AI
Paperatus writes with its built-in AI and needs no key to start. If you would rather work through a model you already have, three routes reach the studio — each with a different scope and a different bill
One studio, three routes
Model context protocol
Paperatus exposes an OAuth-protected MCP server with tools for your projects, literature, manuscripts and submission queue. Add it to Claude, Codex or any MCP client and sign in as yourself — that client reads your research alongside its own conversation
Your subscription
Not available to customers yet. In an owner-only pilot, a connected Claude subscription can answer manuscript chat and run reviews on the official agent; drafting and revision still use built-in AI or your OpenRouter key. Sign-in happens in the provider's own window — Paperatus never sees the credentials
Your own OpenRouter key
Add an OpenRouter API key in Settings and every literature review, draft and revision for your account runs through OpenRouter instead, billed to your own balance. Pick any OpenRouter model id; the key is stored encrypted and is never shown again
The MCP server is live and OpenRouter keys work in Settings today. Subscription connections are an owner-only pilot, not yet offered to customers — Claude signs in natively with Anthropic, and Codex stays off until OpenAI permits hosted access
Before you begin
A few specifics
02 / A note on method
Real sources and verifiable references
Sources come from real scholarly indexes and citations stay connected to your bibliography — review the argument, accept or decline revisions, and prepare a package for your chosen journal
